Christian practices music and entertainment law because that is the area he has worked in since high school when he worked at his local radio station, KOTO- Telluride. Before launching the law practice, Christian had many years of experience in the music industry with an emphasis in radio and marketing of artists. He has earned Gold and Platinum record awards over 50 times from artists like Coldplay, Green Day, Radiohead, Gwen Stefani, Nirvana, Matchbox 20, Foo Fighters, and The Dave Matthews Band.

After graduating Tulane Law School with honors, he directed to transformation of 106.1 FM in New Orleans into The Zehpyr, New Orleans’ original alternative rock station. He produced Zephyrfest, an outdoor festival in New Orleans attended by over 25,000 people. The inaugural Zephyrfest included Violent Femmes, Offspring, and local favorites, Better Than Ezra.

 

As Co-Founder of www.globalcast.com, Christian Unruh helped launch this technologically advanced media proposition, which offered great music from around the world available for purchase through MP3 download. Globalcast was the first live-hosted audio/video streaming multimedia site while webcasting live from world famous Bourbon Street.

 

For seven years, Christian worked alongside Del Williams at Alternative Radio Marketing Strategies (A.R.M.S.) based out of Santa Monica. The client list included Sony, BMG, Warner Music, Universal, RCA, EMI Music/Capitol Records/V Records, Island/Def Jam, Roadruner, Beggars Group, Wind-Up, V2 and several prominent independent labels.

 

Christian did A/R for upstart indie label, Food Chain Records, out of Los Angeles, as well as, A/R consulting for several major labels. Christian assisted music industry icon Les Garland’s creation and launch of the Tube Music Network, a 24 hour music video channel available on the digital tier in over 18 million homes. As the Tube Music special projects director, he also oversaw all aspects of the CD/DVD release of Bridge to Havana, a U.S.-U.K./Cuban studio album and live concert in Havana that reached #2 on Billboard Chart.

 

Christian founded China Shop Music, a boutique record label distributed by Fontana (UMVD). China Shop artists have been heard on “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” “Weeds,” “Saved,” and “Ghost Whisperer,” as well as, advertisements for Ford Mustang and Jaguar, and as the lead track on a national Starbucks compilation.

 

Christian was head of business and legal affairs for SMC Recordings, the San Francisco Bay Area’s premier hip-hop label from 2009 until its partial acquisition by Universal Music. Christian is now working hard to help artists, singers, musicians, producers, independent record labels, filmmakers, songwriters, radio personalities, webcasters, and other small companies in the entertainment space.
